A sad loss to our collection

The EF1 tornado that touched down two miles southwest of Overbrook just after 6 a.m. on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 did a lot of damage to the area as it travelled across nearly 10 miles of terrain between here and the Richland, Kansas area. Fortunately there were no fatalities. There was, however, one sad casualty. The "doctor's coach" that had been a cherished possession of the Colson family for many years was lost to history when the shed in which it was being stored was destroyed.

Patti Colson, one of the founding members of the Overbrook Historical Society board, had kindly offered the coach to us in 2017. We had planned to make it a focal point of our display area in the museum. The coach was being stored in its shed on the Colson farm when the tornado struck.

We at the Overbrook Historical Society are sad to have lost this irreplaceable piece of local history, but we continue to be grateful for the kindness of the Colson family, and we are happy to report that while their farm did sustain significant damage, the members of the family are all safe.
